Alone?

Last year I was going through some suffering related to my anxiety and I wrote this poem in the midst of my darkness. I share it now, not because I believe myself to be a great poet but because I want it to be used in order to encourage someone else who might be going through a dark time. It is simply titled, “Alone?”.

The shadow of fear that hovers over my heart;
I long for it to leave and to forever depart.
The weight that it carries is the constant unknown
Of what each moment will bring as I strive alone.

I battle the shadow and command it to give me relief,
But I hear it mock my voice and darken with more grief.
The weight that it carries is the constant unknown
Of what each moment will bring as I strive alone.

But in the dark and grey I hear a voice cry out;
“I am with you my beloved in the midst of your doubt.”
The weight that it carries is the truth that I am known,
And in that moment I know, that I am not alone.
