The Books of I & II Samuel record a period of Israel’s history immediately follow the days of the Judges. It was a time of political and social unrest. According to Judges 21:25, “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” Into that world of chaos and corruption God, in characteristic fashion, sends His men; first Samuel, then Saul, Israel’s first King and finally David, Israel’s greatest King. Through the lives of these men the nation of Israel would be reminded of God’s steadfast love. By God’s grace, this series of messages will be a challenge to God’s people, especially those in positions of leadership, to walk in obedience before the One who loved them and gave Himself for them, as well as a comfort in those times when we fail to do so.
